Modalities

Acupuncture

A gentle form of drug free healing. Needles are inserted and may cause sensations of numbness, tingling or heaviness but help the body’s natural healing mechanisms to do their work.

Electrotherapy

Electrical nerve stimulation releases pain relieving substances within the body to produce an analgesic sensation.

Cupping

Cupping involves applying suction cups made of glass in various sizes to the body surface. A lighted taper is held at the mouth of the inverted cup. The heat causes the air inside to expand, and some of it escapes. The cup is placed mouth down on the patient's body, and as it cools, the partial vacuum inside makes it stick on and draw the skin and superficial muscles into the cup. The skin becomes red with the increased blood flow that results. To release the cup, pressure is exerted on the skin around it.

Aromatherapy

Aromatic plant extracts are used to create personalized treatments for each individual.  Many treatments at  Acura Acupuncture Clinic incorporate a wide variety of this therapy.

Acupressure

Finger pressure and soft tissue manipulation are applied to points along the meridians (energy channel) which aid in releasing blocked energy. Restores well being and stimulates the body’s natural healing process.

Therapeutic Massage

Through applying pressure to various points of the body and utilizing combined benefits of aromatherapy with pure plant oils, massage soothes tired muscles and relaxes your mind, body and spirit. Deep and firm hand to body contact can identify areas of discomfort which show signs and symptoms of problems which may be of interest in determining your health condition.

Moxibustion II

In the other method the practitioner burns a moxa roll, above the surface of the body safely until it becomes hot and then withdraws it. It never touches the skin.

Moxibustion I

Practitioners use this technique of applying heat locally to regulate the blood flow. Think of it as an ancient form of ultra-sound or ray lamp therapy. There are two main methods of Moxibustion, both of which employ moxa wool.

In the first method needles are first inserted and a small amount of moxa is placed on the head of the needle and then lit. The gentle heat penetrates down the needle into the body.

Therapeutic Techniques

Therapeutic Technique incorporates bone/muscle manipulation techniques mastered by Taiken Jo and is a hybrid of Chiropractic, Rolfing, and Osteopathy.
